GRACE TICKET by Lolu Adedeji

A beautiful encounter, a serious decision . . . creates a threshold in your walk with God. You decide that enough is enough and you are gonna go all the way with him; seek him with all your heart. And for a few days you’re almost certain things have changed for real, sure that things aren’t going to be like before. . . until you “fall short”. This is an experience most of us are familiar with, each one leaving us almost worse off than the last. We begin to lose hope that we can ever amount to anything of a spiritual giant and just go with the flow . . . what the heck?

One thing that hinders us from going to God is self-condemnation. Self-condemnation almost looks like conviction, but while conviction is from the Holy spirit, condemnation is from . . . well we all know, the Devil.
Conviction will lead to genuine repentance and draw you closer to God. Condemnation will push you far away. It will tell you you’re no good and can never get it right. It will shout your weaknesses in your face and compare it to the impeccable “standard”.
The truth we somehow fail to truly grasp is that there is no condemnation in Christ. So when you’re tempted to lay your bed in its room, remember Romans 8:1-2 NIV
‘Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.’

Condemnation will almost seem okay as it will cause you to attempt getting your act right before coming to God. While this agrees with our flesh, it is a very silly move to make. Paul states in Hebrews plainly, that we are to come to the throne of mercy to obtain grace and mercy in time of need. What beautiful assurance!
Grace doesn’t promote sin, it’s empowerment for victory. Mercy not only provides pardon for us but equips us to live from the very throne of God . . . Doesn’t sound like a weak Christian to me.
Titus 2:11-12 NIV
For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say No to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, [Emphasis mine]
Nothing you do or have done takes him by surprise . . . nothing. He loves us all fiercely and will never stop. Choose to be near him . . . Choose grace. His love will dissolve your fears and weaknesses till the full dawning of the day.

Am I Good Enough?

image

Her lips were cracked. Her nose red and eyes swollen. It was ten in the morning and Seyi was still on her bed. Yesterday she had cried all afternoon and stopped in the evening, just to resume that morning.
Seyi threw her pillow on the wine-coloured carpeted floor in frustration and drew her knees close to her head… holding her legs close as she rested her head on it.
She knew her case was pathetic, but she just couldn’t shake away the thoughts that came to her mind. Everytime she went out she couldn’t help but feel she would say something that would get everyone laughing at her. Just the mere thought of them doing that made her depressed.
Tayo, her boyfriend of five months kept reassuring her that she was beautiful, that she was smart, funny and cool; but why couldn’t she believe all that? Why couldn’t she believe the words that came out of the one she loved?
Seyi felt she wasn’t good enough for such a guy, that he deserved someone better . . .

              AM I GOOD ENOUGH?

Am I good enough? This question echoes in our ears, minds and hearts and we truly wonder if we are good enough. We feel that our many mistakes and inadequacies justifies the answer that we feed ourslves or allow others tell us, that in actual fact . . . we really aren’t good enough.
Don’t believe it.
What does God say about you?
What does the bible say about you?

Psalm 139 vs 14 (KJV) ‘I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.’

The above scripture is very common and it tells of how David knew deep within him that he was a Great work of God.

I find myself battling with insecurities once in a while and feeling like I’m not good enough. It’s a battle everyone has to fight and WIN. We can’t continue believing the lies of the devil and shunning what God truly says about us. When He called me out of darkness into His marvellous light He said:
I’m the salt of the earth
I’m a joint heir with Jesus Christ
He loves me
I am precious in His sight
I am His child and I was created in His image and likeness

He said …
You can just keep going on and on and affirming what the scripture says about you and not what someone else says . . . Even if it’s a family member or close friend speaking ill of you. Don’t find your worth in men, find your worth in God. If you want to improve yourself and be better for you then do it!
You are good enough. I am good enough. I’m going to keep saying that to myself, and rejecting every voice that wants to say contrary to that. Insecurities would just destroy relationships and make you never move forward. That hinders you from being all God wants you to be. It’s one thing that doesn’t allow us free in loving the way God wants us to.

Gen 1:31 (KJV), ‘And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.’

It was after God made man that He looked at everything and said it was VERY GOOD.
If you still doubt your worth and feel you aren’t good enough then you need to shake it off by force! Tell yourself each morning, in fact every time of the day, that you are good enough.

I love you . . . But God loves you more.

Don’t deny yourself

image

In life we go through so many hurdles and trials that make us have second thoughts on how we want to behave towards others. We have been hurt too many times and we feel the need to change the way we are. Ever felt that way before? I know I have.

When you do things for someone and they act indifferent to your kind gestures . . . Not even an iota of appreciation. Then you feel, ‘why do I have to continue doing this?’ We then feel the need to change who we are and adapt to who they are i.e behave exactly the same way they do.
Are we really doing the right thing?
Are we showcasing the nature of God that way?

II Timothy 2:13 KJV, “if we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot DENY himself.” (Emphasis mine)

God remains faithful despite our unfaithfulness, for He cannot DENY Himself. God cannot deny who He is. He’s our loving Father, our Merciful Father, our Compassionate Father. All these, and more, He is and would continue to be.
If He so happened to change His nature and who He is . . . He wouldn’t be regarded as the same yesterday, today and forever.
If He changed His divine nature just because of our unfaithfulness we would be doomed.

What am I trying to say?

Just because we go through different tough relationships that leave us battered and broken, doesn’t mean we should change who we are.

What are you like? What’s your nature? Who are you in Christ? You’re loving, kind, open to love people . . . Why change ‘cause of what someone did to you? Why follow the worldly principle that people who are hurt, hurt other people? Don’t deny yourself. Don’t deny the fun loving nature that you have; don’t deny who you are. Remain true to yourself.

I remember when I was in a relationship some years back and I really tried to do things right. I gave my whole self into it. It didn’t work out at the end of the day and I felt the need to build a wall around myself and not be open. To keep my fun loving nature to myself and not trust anyone. But I was just restraining myself from being who I actually am. I needed to show love regardless of who didn’t return it! Instead, I was being too stiff with everything and everyone, which in turn made people afraid to approach me and show me love, as they felt it would neither be welcomed nor appreciated. LOL… Irony of life. That wall came down when I decided I would continue to be me regardless of what happened. If I give them exactly who they are, I don’t reflect the love of Christ. I don’t show them the natue of Christ.

So! Be you. When we do get hurt by what people do, let’s not lock ourselves up in a shell. We can learn from it and then ask for God’s grace and strength to move on. Don’t let anyone make you stop being you . . . I Love you all!
